In-depth review
Overview
The HDFC INFINIA Metal Edition sits right at the top of HDFC Bank's line-up and is widely rated among the best premium credit cards in India. It is a Visa Infinite metal card built for high spenders who travel often and want their everyday spends to convert into genuine flight and hotel value. Both the joining fee and the renewal fee are ₹12,500 + GST, and the card is offered by invitation rather than open application.
Rewards and earning
You earn 5 reward points for every ₹150 spent, which works out to roughly a 3.33% base rate before any accelerators, one of the strongest base earns on any Indian card. Shopping and booking through the HDFC SmartBuy portal can push this up to 10X reward points on select partners. Where the card really pulls ahead is redemption: 1 reward point is worth ₹1 when you book flights and hotels through SmartBuy, and you can pay up to 70% of a booking's value using points. Redeemed this way, the effective return is hard to beat.
Fees
The joining fee and the annual (renewal) fee are both ₹12,500 + GST. The renewal fee is waived if you spend ₹10 lakh in the preceding 12 months, a realistic bar for the high spenders this card targets. On fee payment you also get 12,500 bonus reward points and a complimentary one-year Club Marriott membership, so the first-year cost is largely offset if you actually use those benefits.
Eligibility
INFINIA is invite-only and HDFC does not publish fixed criteria. It is extended to high-income customers or those with a strong overall relationship with the bank. One thing to plan for: from 1 April 2026, HDFC is tightening access, so continued eligibility is expected to need roughly ₹18 lakh in annual spends or around ₹50 lakh in relationship value.
Who it is for
This card is built for HNI and ultra-premium users who spend heavily, fly frequently and want best-in-class reward value with unlimited lounge access. If you can route your bookings through SmartBuy and comfortably cross the ₹10 lakh spend mark, the maths works strongly in your favour. Add-on cardholders enjoying the same unlimited lounge access make it a good fit for a family that travels together.
Verdict
For the right user the INFINIA Metal Edition is close to the gold standard of Indian premium cards: a high base earn, excellent SmartBuy redemptions worth ₹1 per point, unlimited domestic and international lounge access, plus golf and solid travel insurance. The catches are that it is invite-only and the fee only makes sense at high volumes. If your annual card spend runs well into six figures and is travel-heavy, this is one of the most rewarding cards you can hold in India.
