Frequently asked questions

How do I choose the right credit card?

Start from your three biggest monthly spending categories — say online shopping, food delivery and bills — and pick the card that pays the most on those, at a fee you can justify. Ignore headline reward rates on categories you rarely use. Our compare tool puts fees, rewards and waiver conditions side by side to make this quick.

Does applying for a credit card affect my credit score?

Each application triggers a hard enquiry, which can trim a few points off your score temporarily. One or two applications a year are harmless; a burst of applications in a short window can hurt. Once you have the card, paying on time and keeping utilisation low will typically improve your score over time.

What does 'lifetime free' actually mean?

A genuinely lifetime-free card charges no joining fee and no annual fee, ever — with no spend condition required to keep it free. Watch out for 'first year free' offers dressed up as lifetime free, and check whether the waiver depends on annual spending. Cards like the ICICI Amazon Pay and IDFC FIRST Select are true lifetime-free cards.

How many credit cards should I have?

For most people, two or three well-chosen cards cover everything: one for online spending, one for bills and food, and perhaps a lifetime-free backup. More cards mean more fee waivers to track and more statements to pay on time. Add a card only when it clearly out-earns the ones you have on a category you actually spend in.

How do annual fee waivers work?

Most paid cards waive the next year's fee if you spend above a threshold — for example ₹1 lakh or ₹2 lakh — in the current card year. The spend is usually counted per card anniversary year, not calendar year, and some categories (like rent or fuel) may not count. If you won't reliably clear the threshold, treat the fee as real and judge the card accordingly.

Where does SahiChuno get its data?

From issuer websites, official pricing documents (MITC), and issuer announcements, cross-checked against user reports when banks revise benefits. Figures like interest rates and caps are stated as approximations where issuers vary them by customer profile. We update pages when material changes are confirmed — and we tell you when something is uncertain.
