In-depth review
Overview
The Kotak White Reserve Credit Card is Kotak Mahindra Bank's flagship super-premium card, built for high networth individuals who spend heavily and travel often. It sits at the top of Kotak's line-up with a ₹12,500 + GST joining fee and the same amount as an annual fee. In return you get a package that leans hard into travel and lifestyle: unlimited airport lounges, monthly golf, a Club Marriott membership and a spend-linked rewards programme called White Pass that can be worth up to ₹2.5 lakh in a year.
This is not a card for casual users. Almost every headline benefit is designed to reward large annual spends, so the value equation only works if you are already putting several lakh through the card each year.
Rewards and earning
Rewards here work differently from an ordinary points card. Instead of earning a flat rate on every swipe, you earn White Pass in chunks as your annual spends cross set milestones. The ladder starts only after you cross ₹3 lakh in a year, which is the single most important thing to understand about this card: spend below that and you earn nothing.
Once you are past the threshold, the milestones stack up like this on a cumulative basis:
- ₹3 lakh: ₹5,000 White Pass
- ₹10 lakh: ₹20,000 White Pass
- ₹20 lakh: ₹42,000 White Pass
- ₹30 lakh: ₹66,000 White Pass
- ₹40 lakh: ₹92,000 White Pass
- ₹50 lakh: ₹1,20,000 White Pass
- ₹75 lakh: ₹1,83,000 White Pass
- ₹100 lakh: ₹2,50,000 White Pass
Redemption value depends on what you pick. For most catalogue items, 1 White Pass equals ₹1, so at the top of the ladder you are looking at up to ₹2.5 lakh in value. If you choose cashback instead, the rate drops to 1 White Pass = ₹0.70, so it pays to redeem against the catalogue rather than take cash. Reward redemption itself carries no fee.
Beyond White Pass, the travel and lifestyle perks are where this card earns its keep. You get unlimited complimentary domestic lounge access and unlimited international lounge access at more than 1,000 airports, and both apply to add-on cardholders too, which is genuinely uncommon. Primary cardholders also get 2 golf rounds every month at select courses in India and abroad, a 24x7 concierge, and a Club Marriott membership that unlocks up to 20% dining discounts along with hotel and spa savings across Asia Pacific.
Fees
The card carries a ₹12,500 + GST joining fee and a matching ₹12,500 + GST renewal fee from the second year. The renewal fee is waived if your retail spends touch ₹10,00,000 or more in the year, which is well within reach for the target user.
Other charges to note: foreign currency markup is a low 2%, finance charges go up to 3.5% per month (roughly 42% a year) on revolved balances, and cash advances cost 2.5% of the amount with a ₹500 minimum. There is a 1% fuel surcharge waiver on transactions between ₹400 and ₹7,500, capped at ₹4,500 a year.
Eligibility
Kotak positions this as a super-premium product, so the profile expectations are on the higher side:
- Age between 21 and 65 years
- Resident of India
- A stable, high-income profile
- A CIBIL score of 750 or above
As always, final approval and the assigned credit limit are at the bank's discretion based on your income and overall credit history.
Who it is for
The Kotak White Reserve makes sense for a fairly specific person: someone who already spends several lakh a year on a card, flies frequently, values unlimited lounge access for the whole family, and will actually use perks like golf, concierge and Club Marriott. If your annual spend comfortably clears the ₹10 lakh waiver mark and climbs well beyond it, the White Pass ladder starts returning real value and the fee stops mattering.
It is a poor fit if you spend modestly. Below ₹3 lakh a year you earn no White Pass at all, and the ₹12,500 fee is hard to justify on lounge access alone when cheaper travel cards cover that need.
Verdict
The Kotak White Reserve is a strong, travel-first super-premium card with two standout features: unlimited lounge access that extends to add-on cards, and a White Pass programme that can return up to ₹2.5 lakh for very high spenders. The catch is that the whole design assumes a big annual spend, and the cashback redemption rate is deliberately weak to push you toward the catalogue. For genuine HNI spenders it is a compelling package. For everyone else, the milestones and the fee will outrun the rewards.
