In-depth review
Overview
The SBI SimplyCLICK has been the default "first credit card" recommendation in India for years, and for good reason: a tiny ₹499 fee, forgiving eligibility, and a rewards structure aimed squarely at online shopping. It will not excite optimisers, but it is a low-risk way to start building credit history while earning something back.
Rewards and benefits
Partner brands — the list has included Myntra, BookMyShow, Cleartrip, Netmeds and Apollo 24|7 — earn 10X reward points, other online spends earn 5X, and offline swipes earn a base 1X. The catch is point value: at roughly ₹0.25 per point, 10X works out to about 2.5% back, not 10%. That is still solid for a sub-₹500 card. Milestone e-vouchers worth ₹2,000 at ₹1 lakh and ₹2 lakh of annual online spend meaningfully lift the effective return for consistent users, and the ₹500 Amazon welcome gift card offsets most of the first-year fee on day one.
Fees and fine print
The annual fee is waived at just ₹1 lakh of yearly spend — about ₹8,500 a month — which is one of the lowest waiver bars in the market. There is no lounge access and the 3.5% forex markup means it should stay home on international trips. Interest is around 3.5% per month, so as with any card, pay in full.
Verdict
For a student-turned-professional or anyone opening their credit file, the SimplyCLICK is an easy yes: cheap, easy to get, and rewarding enough on the online spending you were doing anyway. Heavy spenders will outgrow it within a year or two — at which point it still earns its keep as a fee-waived backup card.
