Cons

In-depth review

Overview

The BOBCARD Premier is an entry-level travel and dining card from BOBCARD, the credit-card arm of Bank of Baroda. The paid version carries a joining and annual fee of ₹1,000 plus GST, but at the time of writing BOBCARD is issuing it lifetime free under a limited-period offer, which makes the value even better. It hands you accelerated rewards on the categories most people care about when they travel, along with one airport lounge visit every quarter. It is aimed at first-time and value-conscious cardholders rather than big spenders chasing ultra-premium perks.

Rewards and earning

The earning structure is simple. You get 10 reward points for every ₹100 spent on dining, travel and international transactions, which works out to roughly 2.5% since each reward point is worth ₹0.25. There is a catch worth noting: these accelerated 5X points are capped at 2,000 reward points per statement cycle, so the boosted rate covers about ₹20,000 of eligible spend in a cycle, and anything beyond that earns the base rate. Everything else earns 2 reward points per ₹100, or about 0.5%. That gap is really the whole point of the card: use it for restaurants, flights, hotels and overseas spends, and keep a plain cashback card for groceries and bills. New cardholders also get a small kicker, 500 reward points when you spend ₹5,000 or more in the first 60 days.

Lounge access and other benefits

The headline benefit for a card at this price is airport lounge access. You get one complimentary domestic lounge visit per quarter, but it is conditional: you need to have spent at least ₹20,000 in the previous calendar quarter to unlock it. There is also the usual 1% fuel surcharge waiver on fuel transactions between ₹400 and ₹5,000, capped at ₹250 per statement cycle. The card throws in a personal accidental death cover of up to ₹50 lakh for air accidents and ₹10 lakh for non-air accidents, plus up to three lifetime free add-on cards for family. It comes on both the RuPay and Visa networks, so you can pick RuPay if you want to link it to UPI, or Visa for broader international acceptance.

Fees

The paid version has a joining fee of ₹1,000 plus GST and an annual fee of the same. Both are easy to recover. The joining fee is reversed if you spend ₹10,000 within 60 days of getting the card, and the annual fee is waived once your yearly spends cross ₹1,20,000. More importantly, BOBCARD is currently running a limited-period offer that makes the card lifetime free, so many new applicants pay nothing at all. Just keep in mind that this is a promotional offer and could be withdrawn, in which case the standard fee applies.

Eligibility

Eligibility is straightforward. You should be between 21 and 65 years old and either salaried or self-employed with a stable income. As with any card, a healthy credit score improves your chances of approval. Keep your PAN, identity and address proof, and income documents ready when you apply.

Who it is for

This card suits someone taking their first real step into rewards: a young professional or an occasional traveller who eats out, books a few trips a year and would like lounge access without paying a premium annual fee. If you spend heavily every month, or you fly often enough to want multiple lounge visits and richer point values, a mid-tier travel card will serve you better.

Verdict

The BOBCARD Premier is a sensible, low-cost travel and dining card, and the current lifetime free offer only sweetens the deal. The 2.5% earn on the right categories is genuinely good for the fee, and the quarterly lounge visit is a nice touch at this price. Just go in clear-eyed about the weak 0.5% base rate, the 2,000-point cap on accelerated earning, and the ₹20,000 quarterly spend needed for the lounge, and treat it as a category card rather than an everyday all-rounder.
